UK Electrical was appointed to deliver a comprehensive Cat B office fit-out within a modern commercial building in Birmingham City Centre, transforming an open floorplate into a high-quality, fully functional workspace. The design focused on creating a flexible, well-connected, and comfortable environment, incorporating meeting rooms, collaborative areas, open-plan workspaces, and staff welfare facilities, all delivered in line with current building regulations.

Working closely with the client and design team, UK Electrical provided a fully integrated mechanical and electrical installation, ensuring all systems were seamlessly coordinated within the new layout to enhance usability, performance, and long-term efficiency.

Key Features of the Cat B Office Fit Out
Electrical Installation & Data Infrastructure: A full electrical installation was delivered to support the new workspace configuration, including small power supplies to desks, meeting rooms, and breakout areas. Floor boxes and perimeter containment systems were installed to provide flexible, accessible power distribution, alongside a structured data cabling network ensuring reliable connectivity across all workstations and key areas.
Lighting Design & Installation: Feature lighting was installed within reception, breakout, and collaborative areas to enhance visual impact and workplace experience. The general lighting system was reconfigured and upgraded to suit the new layout and meet modern standards, with a compliant emergency lighting system integrated to ensure safe egress and full regulatory compliance.
Fire Alarm & Life Safety Systems: The existing fire alarm system was reconfigured and extended to align with the revised layout, with additional detectors, call points, and sounders installed to ensure full coverage. The system was fully tested and commissioned in line with current fire safety standards.
Mechanical Services (HVAC & Ventilation): Mechanical systems were adapted to suit the new partition layout, with ductwork and air distribution modified to maintain consistent heating, cooling, and ventilation. Additional ventilation was installed in enclosed areas such as meeting rooms, kitchenettes, and welfare spaces to improve air quality and comfort.
Public Health Services: New hot and cold water systems, drainage, and waste connections were installed to support kitchenettes and canteen facilities, with all plumbing works carefully coordinated within ceiling voids and service zones to ensure seamless integration with other building services.
